Doomsday

It’s like he thought the end was actually nigh and cobbled his cinematic bucket list into a single film.

Neil Marshall’s follow-up to two of my favourites — Dog Soldiers and The Descent — is a staggering misfire. It’s like he thought the end was actually nigh and crammed his cinematic bucket list into a single film. Midway through what I expected to be a post-apocalyptic romp, the protagonist Eden (Rhona Mitra) battles an armoured knight in a gladiator pit.

Yeah…

Later, she stumbles upon a new Bentley and wrecks it evading a caravan of goons on her way to deliver the cure for a rampant killer virus.

I could overlook Marshall’s indulgence if the action and gore in Doomsday reached similar heights, but they barely meet the requirement for the ride.

Grade: D

Doomsday is rated R and probably won’t be in theatres much longer.
