Dawn (Jess Weixler) is a good girl who preaches abstinence until an allegedly good boy tries to rape her and she discovers that her vagina has sharp teeth. From that point on, the film devolves into a series of acts of revenge by Dawn against men who mistreat her.
While this trail of tears yields some novel punishment and memorable imagery, the “vagina dentata” conceit lacks mileage and undercuts Dawn’s feminist awakening. She’s beholden to her vagina for a weapon, which isn’t very empowering at all.
Grade: C
Teeth is rated R and in theatres now.
